Just occasionally some music comes along which is so indescribably beautiful that it leaves you stunned and silent.
This is a live performance of Arve Henriksen and group performing his album Cartography at the Punkt Festival, in the Agder Teater, Kristiansand, Norway, recorded on either 3rd September or 9th March 2011 (“2011-09-03” … eh?)
If you haven’t yet caught on to the delights of Scandinavian jazz, then you’re in for a treat. Arve Henriksen literally breathes into his trumpet at times. His “fondness for fragile lyricism and rippling atmosphere” is aided by both Erik Honoré and Jan Bang, long-time cohorts who provide live sampling and electronics. Guitarist Eivind Aarset is also somewhere in the mix, but then he’s worth a post to himself. David Sylvian’s silky voice adds to the atmosphere and before you know it, forty minutes will have passed.
[This is not my upload, so thanks to ‘ludwig’ who says that the audience and announcements have been edited out so that you get one continuous suite, and there’s more info in the folder.]
