It’s that time of year in Indonesia when unless your regular recreational activity is shopping in malls, you wouldn’t know that Christmas is nearly upon us. The transport networks do, with extra planes and trains being laid on, but on nothing like the scale of the Muslim Idul Fitri exodus from the cities to home towns.
There is no mistletoe hanging from doorways or Christmas pudding ready to be steamed in Jakartass Towers, but one tradition remains: the Jakartass Xmas Music Compilation.
But first, here’s a Christmas message from the Beatles which they sent to members of their fan club in 1967… gulp … 50 years ago.
This year, ever mindful of my loyal readers, half of the compilation has been … erm … compiled with the younger generation in mind. The other is for nostalgia freaks, but without a snowflake or roasting chestnut* in sight, nor in the lyrics.
Yep, you get two folders for the non-existent price of one, and you can’t have one without t’other. I trust you’ll find it (them?) a more rewarding and fitting present than Auntie Jessica’s knitted scarf.
